About
our aims

The aims of Northern Pride is the promotion of equality and diversity for the public benefit by:

a) The elimination of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation;

b) Advancing education and raising awareness in equality and diversity issues faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people; and

c) Cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity to create a safe environment where LGBT people can promote and explore their culture and work in the interests of the public benefit to remove any social exclusion.

We achieve our aims and objectives by holding various events, workshops and seminars throughout the year which culminates in the Pride festival in July, the first of these was held in 2008 and was attended by over 2500 people. The Festival includes a Parade through Newcastle City Centre and an events day with entertainment, information stalls and market stalls in Leazes park plus and array of satellite events which include art exhibitions, film nights, history, comedy and music shows. The July Pride Festival has gone from strength to strength and in July 2012 it attracted over 23'000 people.
