About the event
For this year’s Trans Day of Visibility 2022, the Trans Live North East Steering Group would like to invite you to join artist Lou Brown (they/them), founder of art business Goodstrangevibes, for a body gratitude art workshop. This event is for anyone who would like to join our Trans Day of Visibility celebrations online.
The workshop is open to those who have never drawn in their lives and artists alike! We welcome participants who are trans, non-binary, genderqueer, agender, genderfluid, or questions their gender identity.
Firstly, you will be guided through creating a container for your gender thoughts and during the session we will be creating some soothing mantras to go inside. The second activity is creating a thank you card to your body (based on the things your body does for you not on its appearance).
Throughout, Lou will be sharing their personal body image story and their academic insights into positive body image.
To participate, the materials listed below are desirable but if you only have access to 3 sheets of paper, glue/sellotape and a pen we can work around it.
Materials:
1. For the container activity:
- Something that you can recycle into your container that can hold little pieces of paper. E.g. a washed out glass jar from pesto or pasta sauce, an old card tea bag box, a small cardboard box / packaging, an envelope etc.
- Acrylic paint, pens, paper, glue, sellotape, scissors.
- A pen and paper to write notes on.
2. For the gratitude card activity: A4 paper and something to draw/write with (if you have paint, coloured pens, crayons, collage materials (magazines, scissors, glue etc.) that would be great, but they aren’t necessary).
Before the workshop, prepare your space and make it comfortable for you.
Here’s a list of things it would also be good to have:
Your favourite snack
A cup of tea and/or a refreshing drink with a slice of lemon
A candle and/or incense
A blanket, or a hoodie, or a super comfy garment to wrap around you
The art workshop will be on Zoom and it will last 1 hour and 30 minutes hour (5-6:30 pm).
The Zoom link will be provided on the day of the event. Please join 5 minutes before the starting time.
Bookings will end on the 31/3/2022 at 12:00 pm.
Lou will be given technical assistance during the workshop by a member of the Trans Lives North East Steering Group. Members of the Trans Lives North East Steering Group will also be available during the session to anyone who might want some support during or after the workshop.
