My role is Engagement director within Northern Pride Events Limited. My job is to work with a wider range of committee members such as the Family and Youth Engagement officers and the Trans Engagement officer to plan and organise events and strategies in order to engage with and support the LGBT+ community and our allies. My role also involves working with the Volunteer engagement officer to recruit, train and retain volunteers. I am also responsible for engaging with the wider community to increase awareness and promote Northern Pride’s key values of Promote, Protect and Provide.
What’s skills do you bring to the northern pride committee?
I believe that I bring a variety of skills to the Northern Pride table, I am calm, collective and a great communicator. I work in a school as my day job and this enables me to relate to a wide range of people and I have an inert sense of what people want and how to engage with them. I also like to think that I bring humour to the table… I’m funny and make people laugh…I hope everybody else agrees!!
What’s your secret talent?
I don’t know if everybody would class it as a secret talent, but I am amazingly FUNNY! I am an expert gift giver and always choose a present that perfectly suits the receiver.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
I enjoy music but even though I haven’t experienced many concerts I would say the best one I have been to was Beyoncé; despite the pouring rain, she entertained like a true professional and being with my best friends made sure that nothing stopped us singing and dancing along to B!
What do you enjoy the most about working within NP?
I absolutely love big events and the adrenalin you experience being part of something so huge and so important. The Northern Pride Festival is probably what I enjoy the most. The great friendships which I have built with other committee members enrich my life, along with adding further value to my skills and abilities in my professional life.
Who or what inspires you and why?
Whilst a lot of people might say that celebrities inspire them I think the people that inspire me the most are friends and family. They are the people that are there day in and day out getting behind you and encouraging you to become a better version of yourself.
