Trainers needed to help create inclusive, welcoming spaces for our LGBTQIA+ community

Opportunity - Proud Allies Trainer (Freelance)

Curious Arts and Northern Pride are seeking to extend our team of trainers to support and deliver our “Proud Allies” LGBTQIA+ Awareness Training.

Our Proud Allies training has been delivered to arts, culture & heritage organisations, charities, social care and educational settings, local authorities and more recently to larger scale commercial businesses and corporate industries including Sky, TWITCH, Northern Gas, Nexus, Cleveland Police and Northumbria Police. The training has been warmly received and due to popular demand we are increasing output and require more trainers to join our experienced and knowledgeable training team.

Since 2019 we have delivered over 150 training sessions to over 100 organisations. With over 2000 individuals having participated in the training, raising their awareness, increasing confidence around the use of inclusive language and providing a greater understanding of the intersectionality of the LGBTQIA+ community.

In 2023 we worked closely with Newcastle Gateshead Initiative (NGI) to deliver numerous Proud Allies training sessions to staff from the hospitality industry and tourism sector to ensure that the LGBTQIA+ community always receive a positive welcome when visiting the North East region.

 

The applicant

We are looking to welcome Trainers to our team, who can demonstrate the following;

 

Robust knowledge of LGBTQIA+ life, culture and experiences;

  • Identities

  • Current affairs

  • Legislation 

  • World events

  • History 

  • Activism

 

Wider knowledge and awareness of;

  • The Equality Act 2010

  • The Gender Recognition Act 2004

  • Discrimination and harassment 

  • Different forms of biases including Unconscious Biases 

  • Intersectionality and minority stress

 Experience in;

  • Training facilitation 

  • Workshop facilitation 

  • Delivery/facilitation in person and online/virtually 

  • Using Zoom and Google Workspace

  • Managing groups of participants and smaller break out groups                                                   

  • Working with participants at varied stages of their learning/journey.

The shape of training sessions

 

Proud Allies training is delivered through 3 hour sessions online via Zoom or in-person. The call for trainers is 3.5 hours in total for each session.


Training session times are usually 9:30am – 12:30noon, 1.30pm – 4.30pm and 6pm – 9pm.

Our Trainers are engaged on a freelance basis to meet training booking demand and are asked to share their availability with the Training Coordinator at fixed intervals throughout the year. Staffing is determined by availability and equitability for the wider training team.

Trainers will also be able to travel across the UK either as a driver,  passenger or by train. Some overnight stays may be required with travel and accommodation expenses reimbursed outside of the North East region.

Trainer fee


A fee of £100 will be paid per session.
£16 per hour will be paid for pre-agreed meetings/admin.

Prior to on-boarding, the successful applicant will receive training and mentorship from our experienced training team who currently deliver the training.

Eligibility

Applicants should:

  • Be registered as Self Employed and be responsible for their own Tax and NI

  • Evidence your previous background in training, workshops and facilitation

  • Be confident in their approach, friendly, engaging, responsive and professional at all times

  • Be based in the North East of England (preferred but not essential)

  • Be a member of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally

  • Have an Enhanced DBS or be willing to apply prior to starting
